Summary:
Lance has admired Shiro from afar since the first time he found Shiro’s old channel on Youtube. He’s spent years enamored with both Shiro’s music, and with his idea of what Shiro might be like, if they could meet in real life—which they won’t, or so Lance thinks.
What he’s less enamored with, is Matthew Holt and his insistence that he really does know Shiro. Allegedly, they went to college together, and Matt knows why Shiro’s spent most of 2013 being so weirdly quiet. Allegedly, Matt can arrange a meeting between Lance and his musical idol, but surely, Matt’s just lying for attention, right? There’s no way he knows Takashi Shirogane.
Shiro, meanwhile, is eight weeks sober, two weeks out of rehab, and still not used to the fact that he isn’t in Chicago anymore. Recovery’s a difficult process that he’s only just beginning, and he still expects Maurice, his ex, to find him and take him back. Another part of him doesn’t want to give up his old coping mechanisms, thanks.
It makes no sense to Shiro, why any of Matt’s other friends would want to meet him—but loneliness isn’t working out for Shiro, either. So, hey, maybe meeting this Lance guy will be a welcome change of pace.
Part of the a gnawing feeling leaves you quite unsure series.

Summary:
It’s the autumn of 1990 when Lt. Colonel Mitchell Iverson—aged thirty-five, formerly of Lawrence, Kansas and the US Army—first shares drinks with Bennett Martínez, a feisty, young reporter and queer activist. Neither of them plans to fall in love. Surely, Mitch has too much damage and baggage for someone like Bennett, who must have something broken in him, with all the men who’ve said that he’s too much.Read it here on AO3.
Yet, as time goes by and they grow closer, Mitch and Bennett find in each other unexpected balance and belonging.
It’s the autumn of 2013 when Dr. Mitchell Iverson—aged fifty-eight, of Kaltenecker University’s physics department—first meets Takashi Shirogane, twin to one of Mitch’s grad students and currently a fucking mess. Fresh out of rehab and an abusive relationship, struggling with sobriety and an eating disorder, Shiro wants to get well without addressing all the reasons why he isn’t. For his own part, Mitch wants to help, but he’s definitely only looking to be a friend, not to go adopting anybody.
Either way, things would be easier if Shiro would open up or else stop being interesting. Since he won’t do the latter, though, Mitch will need to get creative about getting to know him.
A: I don’t damn know, because if this is a real thing, I haven’t gotten to that point yet. I haven’t actually started or thrown myself into any fights today, which does constitute progress. I find it slightly depressing that this constitutes legitimate progress, but…… Hey, so it goes.
Excerpt from my latest misadventure in stories that tie-in with that one fic of mine, the overgrown, squalling hurt/comfort monster. And this is backstory about Iverson meeting his future-husband at a bar in 1990, because…… I felt like it. Because Mitch and Bennett are sweet, but also kind of sad, but still sweet. Also, I felt like writing about them, so I did.
……Predictably, there are other parts of this fic that come harder on the hurt parts of hurt/comfort, but: 1. some of them haven’t been written yet; and 2. some of them involve the story of how Mitch met Shiro and got to be friends with/a mentor to him. Right now, we’ve mostly just got Mitch and Bennett getting to know each other like a pair of disasters.
( Read more... )Mitch had a turn to take in this little game. After a moment’s consideration, he said, “What’s the secret to your shirt-change magic?”
Bennett snorted. “Literal magic, like I told you.”
“Bullshit, Beautiful.”
“Or maybe I’m handing you a free excuse to take a drink. Because I want you to keep up with me, the way you said.” As Mitch took that offer and a sip, Bennett sighed and slouched onto his elbows, propping his chin in his palm. “Anyway, it’s really not a secret. I just carry an extra shirt with me when I go out. You learn to be prepared, in one of my lines of work.”
Well, that sounds like you moonlight as a hustler, Mitch didn’t say because it would’ve been unforgivably rude.
Fortunately, Bennett kept things moving: “Why aren’t you a doctoral student already?”
I don't entirely know what I'm doing with these prompt tables yet, but apparently, it involves a prep school/boarding school AU, alpha!Cas being ostensibly upstanding and jocky but secretly all kinds of rebellious (though he's probably more trying rebellion on for size rather than fully committing to it like Anna, straddling the line between Anna's, "he was always a good little soldier, did anything under orders" and Naomi's, "you've never done what you were told, not completely"), angst, UST, and all that happy crap.
I think I'll name this plot tribble Cady. Cady the Plot Tribble. Maybe I should really work on a title, though, so I can refer to this 'verse as something other than, "Cady." Since there won't actually be a character named Cady and I can't just include some ridiculous author's note about my penchant for referring to fic bunnies as plot tribbles and naming them as though they're actual pets.
( prompt table fun times. )
On the other hand, though, I'm being a massive perfectionist about everything, and I think I need more time than I have to convince myself that I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and gosh darnit, people like me… also that I'm allowed to write things, and they won't necessarily be awful or completely fail to live up to all of their potential forever, and I won't ruin my ideas or anything like that by actually committing them to paper. Also, I really want to write some Jensen/Misha, with the rationale there pretty much just being, "because of reasons."
( blah blah blah, whine whine whine, writing is hard. )
Pick a trope from this list and provide a fandom and/or pairing (here's a convenient list of stuff I like writing) and I'll tell you something about the story I'd write for that combination (i.e. write a snippet from the story or write not!fic or tell you the title and summary for the story I would write) (I'll probably write a drabble/ficlet. Probably.)
